1910's  
   

1910: Foundation of McNaughton-McKay Electric Company
On March 14, 1910 McNaughton-McKay Electric Co. is founded in Detroit, Michigan by two entrepreneurs, John McNaughton and Arch McKay. They open their first shop at 107 Broadway in Detroit.

1915: Outgrowing our location and moving to a larger facility
In April,1915 McNaughton-McKay outgrows it's 107 Broadway location and moves to a larger facility at 70 Jefferson Ave.

1920's  
   

1925: Joining Forces with Allen-Bradley

McNaughton-McKay begins what would become a long relationship with Allen-Bradley, an associate that would play a significant role in the growth of the company.

1925: Outgrowing our location and moving to a larger facility
The company once again outgrows it's location and is moved to 313-315 West Jefferson in Detroit.

1930's  
   
  1931: Foundation of Carolina Electric Supply
Carolina Electric Supply is founded in Charlotte, North Carolina.
   

1932: Foundation of The Electric Supply Company
The Electric Supply Company is founded in a 8000 sq. ft. building on Walton Street in Atlanta, Georgia by Wiley Crow and Joe Perry.

1950's  
   

1952: Outgrowing our location and moving to a larger facility
As McNaughton-McKay continued to grow another move was necessary, this time to 7000 Intervale Avenue in Detroit.

1960's  
   
  1962: New levels of supplier relations
McNaughton-McKay reaches a new level in supplier relations with Purchases from Allen-Bradley amounting to more than one million dollars.  Never before had one supplier figured so significantly in the sales picture for the company. 
   

1964: The Electric Supply Company acquired by new owners
The Electric Supply Company in Atlanta, GA is acquired by Bill Perry and Harry Shropshire and moved to a larger facility on Trabert Ave.

1970's  
   

1971: Outgrowing our location and moving to our current Madison Heights facility
Increasing business and expanding inventory dictates yet another move of the McNaughton-McKay Detroit facility to our present day location in Madison Heights, Michigan.  This building was designed and built specifically to house an efficient high speed warehouse and distribution center. This building is  situated on 5 acres, and covers 65,000 square feet.
   

1978: Micro-technologies launch the company into the 21st century
McNaughton-McKay enters into the programmable controls market, with the Control Systems Group's inaugurated into the company.  The revolution of micro-technologies launch the company into the 21st century.
   

1979: The Electric Supply Company Expands with a new location
In an expanding market the decision is made to open a location in Cartersville, GA.  This location would allow The Electric Supply Company to better serve the large industrial base and maintain the Allen-Bradley APR.

1980's  
   

1980: Stepping into the High-Tech 80's with EDI
With the onset of the high-tech "80's". McNaughton-McKay steps up its computerized inventory and implements Electronic Data Interchange "EDI" transmitting to further enhance customer support and service.
   

1980: Outgrowing our location and moving to a larger location
The Electric Supply Company moves from it's Trabert Ave. location to a new location with a 40,000 sw.ft. warehouse on Bishop Street.
   
  1982: Foundation of Roberts Electric Supply
Roberts Electric Supply is founded in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
   

1982: McNaughton-McKay Expands with a new location in Michigan
In an expanding market the decision is made to open a sales office in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
   
  1984: McNaughton-McKay Expands with a Strategic Acquisition in North Carolina
McNaughton-McKay acquires Carolina Electrical Supply Company in Charlotte, North Carolina; and establishes it's first location outside of Michigan.
   

1984:  Outgrowing our location and moving to our current Ann Arbor facility
The
Ann Arbor office moves to a larger facility and constructs a addition bringing the total size to 20,000 square feet.
   

1984:  The Electric Supply Company Expands with a new location
With increased focus on a growing OEM and Design Build market, The Electric Supply Company establishes a new location in Carrollton, Georgia.
   

1987: McNaughton-McKay Expands with a Strategic Acquisition in South Carolina
McNaughton-McKay acquires Roberts Electric Supply in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
   
  1987: McNaughton-McKay Expands with a New Location
In addition to the purchase of Roberts Electric, McNaughton-McKay also seizes the opportunity to further grow in the Carolina market with the creation of a new location in Greenville, South Carolina.

1990's  
 

1990:  The Electric Supply Company Expands with a new location
To further focus on expanding it's service area,  The Electric Supply Company establishes a new location in Covington, Georgia.
1991: McNaughton-McKay Expands with a Strategic Acquisition in Georgia
McNaughton-McKay continues it's growth in the Southern US with the acquisition of The Electric Supply Company of Atlanta, Georgia with branches in Carrollton, Cartersville, and Covington.
   

1994: McNaughton-McKay Establishes Southern-Region Headquarters
In order to help better manage the recently acquired southern additions, the Atlanta branch moves to it's current location in Norcross, Georgia and becomes the Southern-Region Headquarters.
   

1994: McNaughton-McKay Expands Southern presence with a New Location
In order to help better serve the area outside of Charlotte, McNaughton-McKay opens a location in near-by Gastonia, North Carolina.
   
  1996: McNaughton-McKay Expands with a Strategic Acquisition in Ohio
McNaughton-McKay acquires Electric Motor and Control Corporation (EMCORP) of Ohio with locations in Columbus, Mansfield, and Newark, Ohio.
   

1997: McNaughton-McKay Expands with More Strategic Acquisitions in Ohio
McNaughton-McKay acquires a facility in Zanesville, Ohio which is soon merged with the existing Newark location to create the new Hebron, Ohio location.  In addition a location in Findlay, Ohio is purchased which includes a motor shop.
   

 

1997: McNaughton-McKay Expands with Acquisitions in Michigan
McNaughton-McKay purchases Advance Electric Supply Co. located in Flint, Michigan.
   
  1999: McNaughton-McKay Continues Expansion with Acquisitions along the Southern East Coast
Four locations of TAB Electric are acquired to enhance service and support in the south. These locations include: New Bern & Wilmington, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; and Savannah, Georgia.

2000's  
   

2000: Celebration of 90 Years
McNaughton-McKay celebrates 90 years of growth & service as it prepares for the new century.
   
  2002: McNaughton-McKay Expands with More Strategic Acquisitions in Ohio
McNaughton-McKay purchases the Supply Division of the Kiemle-Hankins Company, of Ohio, with locations in Maumee (Toledo), Defiance, and Fremont.
   

2004: McNaughton-McKay Expands into Germany
McNaughton-McKay establishes a sales office in Stuttgart, Germany.
   

2005: McNaughton-McKay Expands into Vision & Traceability Market
McNaughton-McKay forms the Vision & Traceability Group (VTG) in Michigan and Northwest Ohio with the acquisition of Phoenix Automation Group.
   

2006: McNaughton-McKay Takes Steps to Plan for the next century
After much time and careful planning, McNaughton-McKay completes the process to become a 100% Employee Owned Company.
   

2007: McNaughton-McKay Continues Expansion into the Construction market
McNaughton-McKay Electric Company purchases MCW Electric located in Ann Arbor, Michigan to expand our construction presence in the Ann Arbor market.
   

2007: McNaughton-McKay Continues Expansion into the European market
McNaughton-McKay Electric Company purchases of all the assets of S+S/ GmbH and S&D GmbH (“S+S/S&D”) located in Wegberg, Germany, the largest Rockwell Automation distributor in Germany. S+S/S&D will operate under the name of Mc-Mc GmbH, McNaughton-McKay’s German subsidiary.

2010: Celebration of 100 Years
McNaughton - McKay will celebrate our 100 Year Anniversary in 2010 and we can't wait to have our loyal customers join us for the festivities.
