Recycling conserves our natural resources. It saves money, creates jobs, eliminates waste in landfills, reduces harm to the environment, protects human health and saves energy. Lamps, batteries, ballast, electronics and computer equipment usually contain mercury, lead and other heavy metals, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) or other harmful materials, all of which are considered toxic and hazardous to human health and the environment. The federal government and all 50 states have enacted rules and regulations to address the proper management of these materials. Failure to manage these items in accordance with regulations may put you and your company at risk as well as endanger public health.

MERCURY LAMPS AND BALLASTS

Recycling reduces the potential for future liability as the Federal Government regulates most lighting waste. Regulations require that hazardous waste must be properly identified, stored, transported, treated and disposed.

  • Straight Fluorescent
  • Compact Fluorescent (CFL)
  • Shatterproof
  • HI and LO Pressure Sodium
  • HID
  • Metal Halide
  • Electronic HID

BATTERIES

Used batteries may be considered a hazardous waste because they may contain corrosive liquids, toxic heavy metals or reactive metals.

  • Alkaline
  • Lead Acid
  • Lithium & Lithium Ion
  • Nickel-Cadmium

E-WASTE

Heavy metals in electronic equipment may cause the equipment to be considered a hazardous waste. Under Subtitle C of the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), hazardous waste must be properly identified, stored, transported, treated and disposed.

  • Monitors/cathode ray tubes (CRTs)
  • Components and Peripherals
  • Mainframes and Servers
  • Personal Computers
  • Printer/Fax/Copiers
  • Consumer Electronics

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Recycling reduces the potential for future liability as the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Toxic Substance Act (TSCA), the Superfund Liability Laws, and the Universal Waste Rule regulate most waste. Valuable ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and oils, which do not contain PCBs, can be reused.

  • Transformers
  • Capacitors
  • Switchgear
  • Regulators
  • Circuit Breakers

McNaughton-McKay offers three comprehensive solutions for recycling and disposal of hazardous materials.

  • Bulk Recycling: Designed for larger facilities with available storage space, needing to recycle
more than 3000 lamps a year or needing to recycle mixed waste streams such as lamps, ballast, batteries, and computer electronics.
  • Cubic Yard Boxes: Designed for larger facilities with less storage space that require quick turn-around and needing to recycle more 1000 lamps a year, but less than 3000 lamps a year.
  • Pre-Paid Recycling: Perfect for small facilities that require quick turn-around with small
quantities of mixed waste such as lamps (less than 1000 per year), ballast, batteries and
    computer electronics.
