Fluke Networks
Troubleshooting industrial networks

Process manufacturing facilities are turning to digital networking controls at a record pace. Industrial Ethernet use alone is projected to grow over 50 % each year for the next five years. Networked systems increase immediate production efficiency, through smart sensors and controls, and add extensive value to overall plant management. Ethernet and other networks are now designed specifically for industrial applications, with tougher shielding for better temperature, corrosion, shock, and vibration performance.

But there are still problems. Industrial networks still suffer from degradation and interference and once the IT professional installs the system, the plant engineer is often left to maintain it…without the tools or knowledge required. Since the trend isn’t stopping, the solution is better communications between IT and maintenance, and better training and tools for plant engineers. IT isn’t always as sensitive to the urgency of plant downtime, and plant engineers aren’t always part of, or party to, the network installation or operation guidelines. The end result is that plant engineers are being asked to do more than ever.

How many people does it take to change a light bulb?
(300 million by complying with the new Federal Legislation)

A new twist has been added to the simple task of changing general service and reflector bulbs and it’s coming soon. And for all of us - and the environment, it will be a turn for the better. The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) is phasing out the iconic incandescent light bulbs and is requiring manufacturers to replace them with new, energy efficient bulbs that comply with EISA’s mandated performance levels for incandescent and incandescent halogen bulbs.

OSRAM SYLVANIA is helping to make this transition an easy one by offering you a variety of bulbs to choose from. And they have created a chart that shows what bulbs you need to replace and when, as well as the many replacement options that are available to you today. Don’t wait. Start saving today.
