Course Description:

This workshop is an intermediate level course. It will extend working knowledge into the world of Ethernet-TCP/IP LANs. This workshop is approximately 20% hands-on and is not a complete maintenance course. The concepts and exercises covered are OSI & TCP/IP protocol stacks; Topologies; UTP Cabling; Plug & Jack wiring; NICs; Addressing; Hubs; Switches;Routers and elementary trouble-shooting.

Course Objectives:

When the participant finishes this workshop they should be able to use RSLinx to connect to AB processors on a single collision domain Ethernet LAN.  Participants should also be able to do preliminary trouble-shooting before requesting help from the IT department.

Who Should Attend:

Ethernet for PLC Technicians is intended for experienced personnel moving to Ethernet from AB proprietary networks.

Prerequisites:

  • SLC500 Intro (TRAN-CTC812) or ControlLogix (TRAN-CTC822) or equivalent experience.
  • Participants in this workshop should be able to perform basic Microsoft Windows tasks.
  • Participants should be able to perform basic RSLogix tasks for DH+. DH485, or serial connections.
