INEFFICIENT LIGHTING WAS THE CULPRIT OF HIGH ENERGY COSTS AND POOR PRODUCT QUALITY IN A CAR AND TRUCK BUMPER MANUFACTURER

COMPANY PROFILE
Global manufacturer of plastics and fiberglass bumpers for cars and trucks.

BUSINESS SITUATION
Poor lighting in the manufacturing facility was resulting in high lighting energy costs and maintenance, as well as poor quality control of products. The customer was educated on what their ROI for local utilities and federal incentives would be with a new lighting solution.

TECHNICAL SITUATION
The older inefficient lighting was resulting in continued maintenance of their current lighting system. The inefficiency of the system resulted in poor light quality and higher energy costs.

SOLUTION
Their low performing fixtures were replaced with a high output, energy efficient, LED high bay lighting system. This was a turnkey project where McNaughton-McKay worked with lighting manufacturers and contractors to manage the project.

BENEFITS
By upgrading their lighting system, they were able to:

  • Lower utility costs
  • Increase safety
  • Have greater quality control
  • Increase productivity and employee morale
  • Receive energy rebates from utility provider with a value of $165,730
  • Qualify for federal tax deduction 179D that amounted to $136,916

There was a savings of $73,340 in lighting energy from the LED retrofit with an ROI on the project of 1.3 years. Because of the positive advantages seen within the plant, the customer decided to upgrade their exterior lighting fixtures as well.
