McNaughton-McKay’s Holiday Playlist

Holiday Playlist

As we all try to destress from the year that has been 2020, a great way to settle our minds is to listen to holiday music to help lift our spirts. We all have those favorite carols, hymns and billboard hits that make us want to tap our toes and sing along. We surveyed our McNaughton-McKay employees to find out what their top 10 holiday playlists would look like and here are the results.

1. Pentatonix, "Mary Did You Know"
2. Bing Crosby, "White Christmas"
3. Mariah Carey, "All I Want for Christmas is You"
4. Andy Williams, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of Year"
5. Brenda Lee, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"
6. Dean Martin, "Baby, It's Cold Outside"
7. Elvis Presley, "Blue Christmas"
8. Wham! "Last Christmas"
9. Johnny Mathis, "The First Noel"
10. Michael Bublé, "It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas" and Burl Ives, "Holly Jolly Christmas" in a tie for 10th."

Hanukkah

There is much focus this time of year around celebrating Christmas, but it is also a special and sacred time for the Jewish faith. Hanukkah songs are a cheerful and important part of celebrating the Festival of Lights. Songs play a vital role in brightening the happiness of the holiday, whether it’s singing around the menorah or just rocking out together. This year Hanukkah is celebrated from December 10 – 18.

Hanukkah O Hanukkah
Maoz Tzur (Rock of Ages)

Kwanzaa

Another special holiday that takes place in December is Kwanzaa, an African American holiday celebrated for seven days from December 26 - January 1. The word Kwanzaa is Swahili for "the first fruits" of the harvest. Songs are used to teach children about the meaning of the holiday. Kwanzaa Celebration takes us through the seven days and explains what they mean. The Kwanza Poem Harambee steps us through the different colors of the candles and their meaning. Harambee is Swahili for "unity".

So…no matter what holiday you celebrate take some time to create the perfect playlist to help bring joy and happiness to your heart. Drop us a note and let us know what your favorite holiday song is that puts a smile on your face.
