Accurately Quoting Power and Construction Projects

10/10/2025

In this Expert Series article, McNaughton-McKay’s Madison Maes discusses the resources, product knowledge and relationships that all contribute to her team’s ability to deliver accurate quotes on construction projects.

Madison Maes is a Power Specialist within McNaughton-McKay’s Construction division. Madison holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indiana Institute of Technology and got her start with McNaughton-McKay in 2024. Her daily tasks as a Power Specialist include working closely with contractors, applying product knowledge and identifying solutions that meet technical specifications and fulfill the customers’ overall project requirements.

In the power department at McNaughton-McKay, we can quote entire projects based on a customer’s engineered project drawings. Then, combining our trusted manufacturers’ vast catalog of material with other resources (such as our large local warehouses), we can work up custom projects, track material shipments and even stage and store large projects.

Accurately quoting projects takes more than just knowing the product catalog. My team understands the equipment on a technical level and can walk customers through the features, benefits and available options in plain language. In doing so, they leave with not just the right product, but also the confidence of knowing the people who have their back.

Our offerings in the power department include a broad portfolio of power distribution and control equipment—panelboards, switchboards, motor control centers (MCCs), switchgear, enclosed circuit breakers, safety disconnects and contactors—designed with a high level of customization. We have systems that enable us to configure quotes on a wide range of products that meet specific electrical needs. These products can include options for custom configurations, ratings, enclosure types, control schemes and advanced features like remote monitoring, arc flash mitigation and integrated automation.

The established relationships between McNaughton-McKay and our manufacturing partners mean our team has direct access to the manufacturer’s engineering and technical support teams. If a project needs a custom solution, we can work with them to make it happen. Contractors have come to rely on our ability to make those last-minute spec changes, even in a tight timeline. They know we can get it done.

The relationships we build during construction projects are a huge part of what makes our work special. We’re not just taking orders; we’re guiding decisions and helping people get products they can count on. Our customers trust us to deliver solutions and quickly resolve any issues that arise. In construction, where deadlines are tight, that kind of trust really matters.
